Social and behaviour change aims to empower individuals and communities, and emphasises participation, co-creation and partnerships to achieve positive change. Social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) is the strategic use of communication approaches to promote changes in knowledge, attitudes, norms, beliefs and behaviour. Many EORE programmes already integrate social and behaviour change techniques, but it needs to be done more intentionally and consistently. Our toolkit provides users with key social and behaviour change models, theories and techniques, and explains how to apply them to an EORE project. The objective is to empower all interested EORE practitioners with the knowledge, confidence and capacity to apply these approaches in their professional environment.
Although many excellent resources on social and behaviour change and SBCC exist online, our innovative toolkit directly links EORE and social and behaviour change. Its design was informed through a training needs assessment and it was piloted at the regional level. As a living document, it is meant to be updated regularly. Therefore, all users are encouraged to provide feedback or examples of case studies/good practice by contacting us.
