Strategies, Regions and Networks
Calvin Ruysen joined GICHD in January 2026 as Head of Division for Strategies, Regions and Networks where he is responsible for understanding the needs and overseeing the support given by GICHD to mine and explosive ordnance affected countries.
Calvin started working in the sector in 2007 when he joined The HALO Trust as a field officer. He worked in Nagorno Karabakh, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Angola, Somaliland and Afghanistan delivering both mine action and weapons and ammunition management programmes.
In 2012, he took responsibility for HALO’s operations across Southern Africa, then Afghanistan in 2016, and then the Middle East and North Africa. In 2021, he became Director of Programmes, overseeing the global operations across 30 countries with 11,500 staff. He is experienced delivering projects tailored to the needs of affected communities and states, and to delivering work at scale.
Calvin studied Architecture at Edinburgh University and has undertaken an Executive Leadership Programme at Cambridge Judge Business School.
