Inclusive Risk Reduction

Maysa Hajjaj joined the GICHD in February 2021 as an Advisor on Gender and Diversity. Her work focuses mainly on mainstreaming gender and diversity in Mine Action Programs, through promoting and supporting G&D responsive planning and programming in partnership with national authorities and other stakeholders. As a member of the Inclusive Risk Reduction (IRR) Division, Maysa collaborates with other divisions within the GICHD to assist in the implementation of processes and strategies for internal gender and diversity mainstreaming.

Prior to joining GICHD, Maysa managed the Risk Education and Community Liaison unit with MAG Syria (2020) and MAG Iraq CL, NTS, and EORE teams in Mosul and several contaminated areas of KRI (2018 -2019). Previously she also worked with UNRWA, ACCEM and other organizations assisting displaced communities in Palestine, Syria, and Arab refugees and asylum seekers in Europe. As well she worked as independent Gender consultant with several Civil Society organizations in Kenya, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and EU. Her portfolio focused on conducting gender sensitive needs assessments, capacity building, providing technical inputs, stakeholders relations, and monitoring and evaluation, within the framework of relief and development.

Maysa holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis – Gender and Feminist studies, from the UCM university (Spain) and a Master of Management from the VUB (Belgium). She is also a Certified Participatory Gender Auditing Facilitator, ITC ILO.
