Svenja Liu

External relations, policy & cooperation programme

Svenja Liu joined the GICHD in September 2022 as a Programme Officer in the External Relations, Policy and Cooperation Programmes Division. In her role, she supports the work of the Centre in integrating explosive ordnance risk reduction with broader agendas, including sustainable development, peace, environmental, and security efforts. Her work involves research and policy support to build up and share evidence on the multidimensional impacts of mine action, demonstrating long term contributions and complementarity across humanitarian, development and peace pillars.

Prior to joining the GICHD, Svenja was a Policy Officer with the Australian Department of Social Services, focussing primarily on refugee settlement issues. She has worked with a range of NGOs such as Amnesty International on social and human rights issues and previously managed research ethics for Cancer Council Victoria, an NGO focussed on cancer research and advocacy.

Svenja Liu holds a Master’s degree in Innovation, Human Development and Sustainability from the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of New South Wales (Australia).
