The Standards and Operations Division provides services and technical expertise on standardisation, quality management, operational efficiency in support of national authorities in mine action and the wider mine action and human security sector. In addition to supporting the development of International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), emphasis is placed on: providing technical assistance, training and capacity development, conducting research, producing publications, developing tools and work methods, supporting the development, improvement and implementation of national mine action strategies and developing and improving national mine action standards (NMAS). The Division further seeks to ensure operational efficiency by providing advice, record and shares best practices to ensure standardised, safe and efficient survey and clearance operations.
Our division is strengthening its team with a new Advisor who will focus on the International Mine Action Standards outreach and training. S/he will promote the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) to advance their adoption and application within mine action programmes, by collaborating with mine action stakeholders both at the national and international level. The Advisor will facilitate knowledge sharing by developing training materials for online and face-to-face training workshops. S/he will organise training events, develop outreach materials and publications and will collaborate closely with colleagues from all divisions on their IMAS and training activities.
- Develop an IMAS outreach and training strategy.
- Lead the development of training and outreach packages for IMAS for the delivery through different platforms including in person trainings, online webinars and E-learning platforms;
- Facilitate IMAS outreach and training activities and events in person and/or through E-learning platforms and/or through written publications as required in collaboration with other GICHD advisors and consultants.
- Liaise within the GICHD to monitor and coordinate IMAS training and outreach activities conducted by the Centre.
- Work in close collaboration with the Advisor on IMAS Development and the Advisor on National Mine Action Standards to ensure outreach and training are coordinated with IMAS development and NMAS activities.
- As project manager, contribute to project proposals, implement projects, develop work plans; contribute to global and annual GICHD reports; report on project achievements as required for internal and external purposes; manage project budgets, finances and consultants.
- Manage the project related to IMAS outreach in line with the Results-Based Management framework in order to support affected countries in forming and/or implementing appropriate national standards.
- Provide financial oversight for assigned projects and activities.
- Fulfil any other tasks assigned by the Head and Deputy Head of Standards and Operations Division.
- Mainstream good gender and diversity practices; respect and promote gender equality and diversity.
- Work in line with, and actively contribute to, the GICHD’s Results Based Management approach.
- Support other colleagues through the provision of feedback when requested.
- Provide direction, supervision and guidance to junior programme officers, programme and project officers and consultants contracted on projects.
- Collaborate with other colleagues to promote and implement GICHD’s strategy.
- Collaborate and coordinate with all other GICHD sections, including Communications, Support & Administration.
- Strive for continual improvement in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the work.
The position is based in Geneva with a frequent travel requirement to the countries of focus, with a global scope. The position will also assist other projects as appropriate and will work in close collaboration with other Advisors in the different divisions of the Centre. The Advisors are also expected to represent GICHD in international events; provide specialist advice to national counterparts, partners and diplomatic representatives as part of capacity development initiatives; and play an active role in the organisation’s strategic management and in the reporting to GICHD’s governance and donor institutions
- A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in mine action field operations and management, preferably in different countries/regions.
- Substantial operational exposure to survey and clearance operations.
- Experience with the design and delivery of training courses and in capacity development of local counterparts.
- Experience and competence in project management, including budget, financial monitoring and reporting.
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Ability to communicate clearly and constructively with a wide range of stakeholders from diverse cultures
- Commitment to the continuous improvement of individual and organization-wide results.
- Proven team-player with service-minded attitude.
- A post-graduate degree or equivalent military diploma in a relevant subject of study.
- Understanding and experience in mainstreaming gender and diversity considerations.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of results-based management systems.
- Experience in working with e-learning platforms.
