Ammunition management advisory team
Afifa Habbassi joined the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) in April 2026 as an Advisor within the Ammunition Management Advisory Team (AMAT). In this role, she supports partner states in strengthening through-life ammunition management, with a focus on emergency preparedness, stockpile safety, and risk reduction. Her work includes providing technical advice, supporting the development of national frameworks and guidelines, and contributing to capacity-building initiatives in line with international standards, including the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG)and MOSAIC.
Prior to joining GICHD, Afifa Habbassi accumulated over 20 years of experience in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), physical security and stockpile management (PSSM), and weapons and ammunition management (WAM). She served as PSSM Country Manager in Moldova with the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, where she led large-scale ammunition safety and infrastructure projects in support of the Ministry of Defense and international partners. Her career also includes assignments with organizations such as UNMAS, UNLIREC, ICRC, and MAG, delivering technical assistance, training, and advisory support across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.
Afifa Habbassi holds an engineering degree in armament (weapons and ammunition technology) from a military academy and is certified EOD Level 3+. She is also a Project Management Professional (PMP) and a UN SaferGuard expert. She also completed an MBA, with research focused on empowering women in leadership roles in EOD and PSSM.
