
Standards and Operations
Alain Nellen joined the GICHD in October 2018. As Programme Officer, he works closely with the Head of Division, the Deputy Head and Advisors to support the substantive, financial and administrative aspects of their work in the relevant thematic areas covered by the Division. He supports the project management by participating in project planning and design including budgeting and donor reporting. He provides support to Advisors in facilitating training workshops and in conducting contextual research in Explosive Ordnance-affected countries. Alain also liaises with the IMAS Secretariat to monitor the work progress in line with the IMAS workplan and associated approval process as well as provides administrative/technical support to the IMAS Secretariat. He previously served as Project Officer, Standards and Operations Research in the former Strategies and Standards Division.
Prior to joining the GICHD, Alain worked in the Multilateral Diplomacy Programme at UNITAR focusing on implementing policy based capacity building initiatives. He also worked for Share Uganda as a Field Researcher to support programme development, and monitoring and evaluation initiatives in Uganda.
Additionally, he was deployed by the Swiss Armed Forces International Command to coordinate multi-partner projects for the NATO-led peace support mission in Kosovo.
Alain holds a Master`s degree in Development Studies with a focus on conflict, human and social development from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Politics (International Relations) and Geography (Sustainability Studies) from Curtin University in Perth, Australia. Previously, Alain graduated with a Swiss Federal Vocational Diploma in Commerce and Business Administration.
