External relations, policy & cooperation programme

Alice Spazian joined the GICHD in November 2024 as a Programme Officer in the Policy Research Programme. In her role, she supports the work of the Centre in integrating explosive ordnance risk reduction with broader agendas, including sustainable development, peace, environmental, and security efforts. Her work involves research and policy support to build up and share evidence on the multidimensional impacts of mine action, demonstrating long term contributions and complementarity across humanitarian, development and peace pillars. 

Prior to joining the GICHD, Alice was a Programme Officer with the HALO Trust in Angola, managing donor contracts, and implementing and monitoring different humanitarian mine action projects. She has worked with a range of IOs such as the International Committee of the Red Cross on humanitarian diplomacy and crisis management, as well as for the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, where she supported the implementation of research projects, and the strategic engagement in different disarmament forum.   

Alice Spazian holds a Master’s degree in International Security Studies from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (Italy) and Bachelor’s degree in International Development and Cooperation from the University of Bologna (Italy).
