Research, Innovation, Standards and Operations (RISO)

Radwa joined the GICHD in February 2019 and holds the position of Advisor in the Research and Innovation (R&I) Programme since Jun 2025. In her role, she advises on research and innovation related activities, supporting mine action partners in exploring innovative solutions and addressing challenges related to Explosive Ordnance Risk Reduction (EORR) operations, building on her experience working with national authorities and stakeholders.

In her previous roles as Advisor for Capacity Development for National Mine Action Standards (NMAS) and Compliance and Programme Manager for the Standards Programme, Radwa led activities to enhance the development and outreach of the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and supported national authorities and stakeholders in aligning their NMAS with IMAS and sector best practices.

Prior to joining the GICHD, Radwa has worked in mine action, since 2013, leading mine action and armed violence reduction programmes in fragile contexts such as Libya, Tunisia, and Afghanistan with the Danish Refugee Council (2013–2018), and in the Middle East with the Mines Advisory Group (2018).

Before entering the mine action sector, Radwa worked with UN-Habitat, Catholic Relief Services, and CARE on humanitarian programs across Egypt and the MENA region (2003–2012), focusing on protection, humanitarian response, and capacity building.

She holds a joint MA in Sociology from the University of Freiburg (Germany) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), and a BSc in Political Science and Economics from Cairo University (Egypt). Radwa also holds an EOD-2 qualification.
